NewsGuard: The Political Elite’s Tool For Online Censorship

First, a three-minute synapses of how NewsGuard works by Gregory Reese from the ReeseReport.com. Reese explains how NewsGuard works with the Google Chrome browser when a user chooses to use the add-on extension.

Microsoft, one of NewsGuard’s largest financial contributors, has integrated NewsGuard’s ratings into the Microsoft Edge browser, so the ratings system works by default without a user needing to choose to use it. Microsoft also added the “green” and “red” badges to its Bing search engine, so the ratings system automatically appears within search results, also by default, for users who use Bing with the Edge browser which is the default browser for all Microsoft Windows computers. Microsoft’s Edge browser had a United States market share of 5.92 percent while Microsoft’s Windows is the most widely used computer operating system in the world with more than 70 percent of market share. Reese also discusses the individuals behind the ratings company, such as Co-CEO Gordon Crovitz, member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and advisors Tom Ridge, former Homeland Security Secretary under George Bush, Retired General Michael Hayden, the former Director of the CIA, former Director of the National Security Agency,  someone investigative journalist Ben Swann said “should make people want to run – as fast you can – from NewsGuard,” and Richard Stengel who told the Council on Foreign relations he was a “propagandist.”

Afterwards, watch CensorTrack with TR with Tierin-Rose Mandelburg. In episode Eighteen, Mandelburg calls NewsGuard’s rating system, “another attack on conservative speech,” explaining a recent study that showed NewsGuard’s rating system routinely gives right-wing sites lower credibility ratings than leftist sites.

Investigative journalist Ben Swann explains what he calls NewsGuard’s “entirely flawed system” and that is clearly created for “the sole purpose” of pushing people towards “neocon, neoliberal perspectives”.

GOP Lawmakers Raise Questions About NewsGuard’s Impact On Conservative Voices

Conservative publishers such as BreitbartNewsmax, One America News Network (OAN), The Epoch Times, and The Published Reporter have also received a low Trust Rating. In reality, NewsGuard is a biased media firm led by political elites, that pressures tech companies to censor information they don’t like. It does not matter the age, size or overall credibility of the publication. Publishers could have 54,000 articles which are journalistic masterpieces, yet just a few stories NewsGuard doesn’t like can lead to an editorial judgment that a publication is “irresponsibly and repeatedly publishing false content” as is what happened with Newsmax, which is viewed in 70 million homes and has been reporting for over two decades. For a much longer discussion, watch Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow and PragerU Chief Executive Officer Marissa Streit expose NewsGuard as a biased media firm led by political elites, that pressures tech companies to censor information they don’t like – But NewsGuard is not just about censorship; it’s about bankrupting news publisher they don’t like so they disappear.

In my opinion, this video also lays the groundwork for a case on how NewsGuard’s tortious interference of publisher business relationships damages brand value, growth potential, and severally reduces an enterprises traffic and revenue. — John Colascione. For a much longer discussion, watch Breitbart Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow and PragerU CEO Marissa Streit expose NewsGuard, an organization that purportedly ranks the trustworthiness of online media outlets, who baselessly gave PragerU a low “Trust Rating” leading to censorship and blacklisting by Big Tech.
