Gilgo Beach murder investigation sparks new search of woods on Long Island: Reports

221

The Post has learned that cops are currently searching the woods near Manorville, Long Island, as part of a lengthy investigation linked to the Gilgo Beach killings. Members of the NYPD, including a K-9 unit, are collaborating with the Suffolk County Police in the vicinity of Schultz Road, near Wading River Manor Road. They are also exploring a road that traverses state land accessible only to permitted hunters.

A statement from Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney confirmed the joint effort of the Suffolk County Police Department, the New York Police Department, and the New York State Police in an ongoing investigation, with no further details disclosed at this time.

This search adds a new dimension to the investigation of the notorious Gilgo Beach killings, which originated from the discovery of four sex workers’ bodies on the Long Island beach in December 2010. Six additional bodies were subsequently found in the same area.

The case remained unsolved for years until former NYPD chief Rodney Harrison, who was Suffolk County police commissioner, reopened the investigation in January 2022.
