Las Cruces Police Department officers had arrested the man accused of shooting and killing another man of Princess Jeanne Drive Monday morning.

25-year-old, Isaiah Joseph Rea, was arrested by LCPD officers along the 200 block of Three Crosses Ave. just before 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, after a short car chase, according to the arrest report.

Rea is accused of shooting and killing 34-year-old Steven Sanchez on Princess Jeanne Drive at around 3:30 a.m. on Monday.

According to court documents, Rea went to a home along the 1900 block of Princess Jeanne Drive. Court documents state that Sanchez, REa and another man went into a shed in the backyard.

Sometime after, Rea returned to the main house and, according to a witness, said something to the effect of “I thought that’s what he wanted me to do”.

Moments later, the court documents state, the other man also entered the home and said, “he just shot Steven”.

The witness reportedly went to the shed to check on Sanchez, and by the time they returned to the home, Rea was gone.

Another witness also reportedly heard Rea say, “I thought that’s what he wanted me to do”. However, the witness  told police that the unknown man responded, “I never said that”.

On Tuesday, LCPD put ota notice that Rea was on the run and that he was considered armed and dangerous.

Rea is currently being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Facility on one first-degree murder charge, as well as battery against a household member.
The further details are not yet released by the department, stay tuned for other updates.
