Last week in Texas, Michigan, communities poured into the pond of sorrow after a student suddenly died while on a school trip to a robotics competition.
The news is officially confirmed by the Lake Orion High School with USA TODAY on Tuesday. They confirmed that the student suddenly passed away, but they did not identify the student with the reporters. The school is located in Orion Township which is about 40 miles north of Detroit.
Superintendent Ben Kirby referred in a statement obtained by USA TODAY that “it is with deep regret that we inform you about a recent loss of our school community.”
“Today, on Friday, April 19, one of our current high school students suddenly passed away. Our hearts, thoughts, and prayers go out to their family, friends, and other related bodies”.
The investigation is ongoing. However, the officials have not yet released the cause of death.
Dan Hass, Lake Orion High School’s principal, informed parents that the student was attending the Robotics World Championship, according to the reports by the Oakland County Times.
Further, Hass said that “Our hearts are very heavy as we mourn this loss”, “We will be ready to meet the needs of our students and staff Monday morning”.
Kirby noticed in the statement that Lake Orion High School and Lake Orion Community Schools have crisis teams that will be ready to help with the needs of students and school personnel.
Kirby shared that we are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to support our high school students through this tragedy.
Lake Orion Robotics FIRST team 302 shared a post on an Instagram handle that “This has been an incredibly challenging situation for our team and community, and we are grateful for the overwhelming support we’ve received.
“We’re prioritizing the privacy of the family right now and will share more when it’s appropriate. Thank you all for your understanding and support”.
