The hard rock group said that the hair metal legend C.J. Snare, who led FireHouse for over thirty years, taking on lead vocals and keyboard duties on each of the band’s eight albums, passed away “unexpectedly” on Friday night. He was sixty-four.

On social media, the group posted that Snare’s passing had left them in “complete shock.” “Today is a sad day for Rock N Roll,” they declared, referring to Snare as “arguably one of the best vocal talents of a generation” and a “rock and roll warrior.”
The band clarified in a Sunday post: “As you all know, CJ was scheduled to return to the band’s stage this summer following his recovery from surgery. The sudden death of CJ has left us all in complete shock.
The band did not release an explanation for the death, but Snare’s daughter told TMZ that he died after an extended fight with cancer. The tabloid stated, “She says cardiac arrest is his official cause of death.”
C.J. Snare: Who is He?
In 1984, Snare, drummer Michael Foster, bassist Perry Richardson, and guitarist Bill Leverty formed FireHouse in Richmond, Virginia. After being signed by Epic Records in 1989, the band shot to fame in 1990 with their self-titled first album, which went double platinum and sold over two million copies.
Early in the 1990s, the band had a string of popular hit songs, including three Top 20 successes on the Billboard chart: “Don’t Treat Me Bad” in 1991, “Love of a Lifetime” in 1992, and “When I Look Into Your Eyes” in 1992.
Snare’s eight-year partner Katherine Little said on social media on Sunday that he received a stage IV colon cancer diagnosis in September 2020. “Despite the dire prognosis at first, he persevered,” she added.
The following year, Snare had “life-saving” surgery, which “gave us these last years with him.”
