Ex-Wide Receiver Drops Bombshell Opinion on Marvin Harrison Jr.’s Pro Day Absence

Marvin Harrison Jr., the standout wide receiver for the Ohio State Buckeyes, made quite a splash in the news recently due to his decision to forgo participating in the NFL Scouting Combine and his choice to skip his pro day workout.

During a Friday appearance on the FS1 “The Herd with Colin Cowherd” program, retired wideout James Jones shared a somewhat surprising reaction to Harrison’s pre-draft decisions, as reported by Chris Rosvoglou of The Spun.

“I have a strong dislike for this,” Jones expressed his opinion about Harrison. “I honestly have no idea.”

The primary factor that contributes to my dislike for this is my status as a competitor. This individual is in a favorable position. Please start recording.

However, there are many individuals who fit that description. “Calvin Johnson was truly exceptional.”

NFL experts Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk were among those who previously pointed out that Harrison had little to gain by not participating in workouts at either the NFL Combine or Ohio State’s pro day.

Harrison also chose not to attend his media availability at the NFL Combine, which, as Florio pointed out, was completely optional.

Marvin Harrison Unfazed by Hall of Fame Speculation

COLUMBUS, OHIO – APRIL 15: Marvin Harrison Jr. #18 of the Ohio State Buckeyes walks off the field following the Spring Game at Ohio Stadium on April 15, 2023 in Columbus, Ohio.

Jones may have a valid point that Harrison’s chances of being inducted into the Hall of Fame or being revered as a legendary figure for a specific team are slim.

Harrison doesn’t seem too concerned about these matters, as his draft stock is likely the same as it was in February.

In a recent mock draft, ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller predicted that the Los Angeles Chargers will select Harrison as the fifth overall pick.

He also believes that Harrison will be the first receiver taken on the night of April 25.

The Arizona Cardinals are likely to choose Harrison with the fourth pick, unless they decide to use that selection to acquire a quarterback who could potentially replace Kyler Murray, or trade it to a team in need of a signal-caller.

If anything, Harrison might emerge as a trailblazer in terms of how upcoming high-caliber prospects manage their affairs in the time leading up to a draft.
