Jack Quinn’s ankle became wrenched beneath his body, causing him to go to the boards during the Buffalo Sabres‘ victory over San Jose on January 27.
Head coach Don Granato saw Quinn’s struggle to get up. The coach expressed his immediate concerns on Tuesday that the injury could potentially end the season.
After Quinn required surgery, the Sabres set an eight-week timeline and he successfully adhered to it. He participated in practice without any limitations on Tuesday, indicating a strong possibility of his presence in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Ottawa Senators.
Granato said, “He’s very close,” after Tuesday’s practice at KeyBank Center. “I would say he’s officially day to day, meaning it could be tomorrow, based on a conversation we’ll have following this.”
While the Sabres are currently six points behind the playoff position with ten games remaining in the regular season, they will begin a five-game homestand against the Ottawa Senators.

Also, two of the next four games will be against teams that Buffalo needs to pass for the chance to advance in the wild-card race. These games will take place on Friday against New Jersey and Tuesday against Washington.
As the Sabres were traveling to the West for four games last week, Quinn, who had rehabilitation skating, said, “I always had in my head that I wanted to be back this year.”
Quinn “looked really good” while practicing in a line with Dylan Cozens, the center, and JJ Peterka, the winger, according to Granato, who also predicted that Quinn’s return will help Buffalo’s forwards all the way down the lineup.
Granato stated, “Everyone loves him so there’s that dynamic, his energy, his vibrance and passion for the game,” “It makes everyone else better because now there is one more talented scorer that’s dangerous that the other team has to pay attention to.”
