Despite the San Francisco Giants’ efforts to bolster their lineup this offseason, they reportedly missed out on securing the services of free agent slugger JD Martinez.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Giants extended an offer to Martinez, only for him to decline it. Heyman’s report suggested that Martinez, formerly with the Dodgers, wasn’t keen on joining the Giants.

The 36-year-old JD Martinez showcased his hitting prowess during the 2023 season, delivering an impressive performance with the Dodgers, where he tallied 33 home runs, 103 RBIs, and a slash line of .271/.321/.572.

Despite his stellar numbers, the Dodgers opted not to extend a qualifying offer to Martinez in the offseason, leaving him in free agency limbo.

Martinez’s agent, Scott Boras, represents several other notable players who are also currently unsigned, including Jordan Montgomery, Blake Snell, Matt Chapman, and Cody Bellinger. Heyman suggested that the Texas Rangers could be a potential landing spot for Martinez, a six-time All-Star.

Despite the San Francisco Giants’ efforts to bolster their lineup this offseason, they reportedly missed out on securing the services of free agent slugger JD Martinez.

In the Giants’ pursuit of offensive firepower, they turned to veteran Jorge Soler, signing him to a three-year, $42 million contract on Feb. 13. Soler’s addition is expected to inject much-needed power into the Giants’ lineup, addressing a deficiency that plagued them in the previous season. In 2023, Soler recorded 36 home runs, 75 RBIs, and a slash line of .250/.341/.512.

JD Martinez brings an impressive track record to any team he joins, boasting a career batting average of .287 along with 1,002 RBIs, 315 home runs, and 1,639 hits across 1,522 career games.

Despite the Giants’ setback in their pursuit of JD Martinez, the Los Angeles Angels and New York Mets are reportedly still in contact with the designated hitter.

With Opening Day looming just a month away, Martinez’s future remains uncertain. Whether he’ll find a new team before the start of the season is yet to be determined, leaving fans and teams alike eagerly awaiting his next move.
