Bryce Harper’s pregame excursions to Philadelphia convenience stores inspired his most recent Under Armour shoes. The National League-leading Philadelphia Phillies hope to exact some retribution on the Arizona Diamondbacks, who finished second in the World Series, as they prepare for a weekend series rematch against their NLCS rivals from the previous season.

Slugger Bryce Harper is on track to play in another MLB All-Star game (he leads the NL in votes cast) and has a season worthy of MVP honors. He also plans to carry on his pre-game ritual of frequenting Wawa convenience stores in Philadelphia.

The first baseman will debut wearing a customized Harper 9 cleat designed with a Wawa motif on Friday night in honor of Harper and this unusual custom.

The “Gottahava Harper” PEs, created in partnership with Wawa and Harper, are designed with a blend of gradient hues from the original Wawa identity. A Wawa barcode logo is included on the heel, emulating the barcode used to pay for Harper’s preferred summer hoagie.

Harper 9 turf shoes, which will be available at Dick’s Sporting Goods in July, and “Gottahava Harper” t-shirts will be released by Under Armour in addition to the personalized PEs that will be worn on the field.

Harper (1,110,562 votes) is ready to unseat Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman (713,858 votes), who has started at the position four of the last five seasons as the NL starter in his first season as a full-time player.

Harper would become the first player from the Phillies since John Kruk in 1993 to win the fan vote at first base if his lead was maintained. Harper received the fan vote six times in the past: five times as an outfielder and once as a designated hitter.

The “Gottahava Harper” PEs will premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday at 6:40 PM ET against Arizona. For all of the latest information about footwear from MLB and the other sports worlds, fans may follow Sports Illustrated.
